Host Family Experiences - by Mark & Baden

I am having so much fun with my Chinese friend, Mark.  I have had a lot of good experiences with him he liked the zoo he loved the monkeys and the red panda but what he liked doing the most was feeding the goats. He really trusts me he trusts me more than he trusts my parents.

Reflections from Yesterdays Excursion and Today's Institute Activities

Today in the Culture Agents class I opened the see it Mission Beijing yellow folder. Inside were unfinished sentences about were Zeno (the bad guy) is. To complete the sentences I had to look in my word chain in the See it yellow group to find the Chinese translation of we're Zeno is in a Beijing landmark.

Yesterday we went to old world Wisconsin it was cool. First we went to the first Catholic Church in Wisconsin. She played the organ their it was cool. Second we went to the wheel shop for the wagons. Then we went to the general store. Then we went to the blacksmith he made a metal hook it was awesome! Then we went on the tram to a little village with acute pig under a house. We went to the small  pig  storage area.  Then we got to mow the lawn.  Then we went to see the baby pigs and baby sheep.

For two days now we have made rockets.  We have done Culture Agents, writing, robotics, and folk tales. It has been fun we have all made friends!

Today, my favorite group was sports. In sports today we played basketball red jerseys versus no jerseys it was fun  because we didn't keep score and it wasn't  a competition. At the end we gave high fives and laughed there's nothing like a good old fun game with friends.   I never thought this would be this fun but I was mistaken this will the best summer of my life.

Yesterday, I went to the Old World Wisconsin. I knew some more about Wisconsin's history by this field trip. Although it's tired, but it's really fantastic. I like the Finland men's house best. Their family didn't have enough money to come to Wisconsin, so the man came here first. Nine years later,their family would be together. It's very hard but it's also real.
Today,I had lessons at school. We had five lessons a day and I like sports best. We played basketball during the class. I like playing basketball very much. Doing the sports can make me be healthier. Everyday has different things and I like the change like this. I enjoyed these days in Wisconsin.

Yesterday we visited the old world Wisconsin,it was very interesting,it is about the Wisconsin's history we visited a lot of place about old world Wisconsin.The teacher told us a story about a Finland's people,it was a dad,he was very poor,so he came here by himself,and then his family came here too,but his litter son was died in Finland,it was very when l headed it.

Reflections from the First Day of the Institute! (Local & International)

Today we have a fine day. I was a little excited.

First  we have art class we draw a bridge I think I am not drew very well although I try my best.  I am not good at drawing.  We also have cook lesson we made pizza  cookies and dumplings that is so interesting I think I had a good day today.

Today we arrived at an American school and we studies in this school.

First we learned how to protect ourselves when we are in trouble .

Second we learned how to draw bridge and take some photos.

Then   we learned how to cook pizza and dumpling and they tasted great.

Then we write a diary about our lives and we learned a lot of English  .

We had chicken milk and noodle for lunch.

In the afternoon we saw the robotics and have a good time.

Now we are having computer lessons we write some words about today on the computer.

I went to school today. I got up at seven o'clock. Then, I had my breakfast. We got on the bus at eight o'clock and arrived at eight fifteen. The first lesson is Art. I drew a bridge during the class. The second lesson is cooking. We cooked cookies, pizza, and dumplings. It's really fantastic and I love it. The third lesson is writing. I got a new notebook from teacher to write diaries. They can use for memory. The fourth is robotics. I saw some robots walking and turn around. It's fun! The last one is computer. I like playing computers very much. We surfing on the Internet and watch some videos. I enjoy this day very much.

Today I went to an institute; it was about different cultures and really fun subjects. My first subject was engineering. We learned about bridges. My second class was cooking and we made cookies, pizzas, and dumplings. My third class was journalism. We wrote about our day and talked about things that go in a journal. We ate lunch after that, we had popcorn chicken, rice noodles, French fries, fruit, and milk. After that I had robotics where we watch a robot and got to play with it. My last class was computers and we watched videos and wrote these letters. That was my day at the summer institute.

Today l had the Art lesson, We draw the bridges, It was very fun. Then we had a cooking lesson, We cook the pizza and the dumpling, and then we had the diary lesson, we learned how to write diary in English in the morning. We had lunch at twelve o’clock. It was very nice, we had the chicken. Then we had a robotics, It was very fun. Now, We are having a computer lesson, It is very interesting.

In the morning I walked to school with Coco, the student I am hosting. We arrived and had our breakfast at Kennedy. Today at school, we were working on building teams. Some of the activities that we were involved in included art, cooking, robotics, writing in journals and technology. Drawing bridges in art was very fun and in cooking class I learned how to make traditional American and Chinese cuisine. Robotics and technology were an exiting experience. I had a great time making new friends and communicating with international friends.

The teachers are all very kind and willing to help everyone. I am looking forward to coming tomorrow and the following days!

Today we went to various different stations around the school. First we went to the art room and we had various drills to show the Chinese students how we do them in America, after this we drew bridges and talked about their shapes that they could have.

Then we went to the pod kitchens and we made cookies, pizza, and then for snack were gonna have dumplings Yum!  Next we went to the class for journaling and brainstormed ideas about Chinese and American students.

Today I had cooking class and we made pizza, cookies and dumplings! I learned that in China the do not grow peas so when they came here it was new for them. I had a journalism class today and I wrote about cooking class and drew some picture of the food I made and ate! I had robotics today and we saw the robot follow a straight line and saw the robot try to go up a tilting bridge without falling/it worked once! We made Wordle's in the computer lab. We had to describe the Summer International Institute in words to go in our Wordle's! I met a new friend named Hanna. We watched some videos of Chinese clothes and there were some people modeling them on stage! I tried some new foods today at lunch. I tried rice doodles it is rice that has the texture and tastes like a noodle. We had art class today were we had to draw our dream bridges and learned the different types of bridges. We learned three drills today. The fire drill. The lockdown drill and the tornado drill. They were all kind of hard for the exchange students to understand. The Summer International Institute is very fun and it is a great way to learn different cultures I think the Summer International Institute was a very very good idea!;)

Today is the third day.We are all excited.In the morning,we went to a school.We had a lesson with some foreign children.The lesson was very interesting,we all liked it.Then we draw a picture together.Everyone all tried our best.We were all happy.I can learn much from it .l think it's a fantastic experience.I enjoy it very much.

By today's course,we have learnt a lot about American and Chinese cultures. We knew there are lots of differences between them. We also learnt about the two flags and we got to know the meaning of each flag. At last of the morning,we began to design our own flags. It was so excited! I didn't know how to do in the beginning. I really had no ideas. However,after lunch,I finally finished my drawing--a purple sun. I thought it was amazing because it was bling bling! I felt proud  of myself.

I am very excited to visit the U.S.A.This experience is very valuable.when we arrived in the U.S.A i was very tired.so i went to bed very early that night,so I was energetic at the daytime.I like the food there.they taste very delicious.The first day we went to a high school.we knew something about the school life in the U.S.We also learnt how to study better.The second day. We went to a park and had great fun there.Now I can chat with foreigners. I can mostly understand their words.

Today is Wednesday. It's the first day for me to go the school in Janesville,Wisconsin ,America. I'm so glad and excited to arrive here. After my home stay drove me to the school,I had the that the breakfast that the school prepared for us.  It's different from the breakfast that we usually  have in china,but it tastes good as well. Then we had a lot of activities.For example,we made a flag,we saw something about the culture ??????? and so on. 

I'm really glad to have such a wonderful time in this school,and I hope I will enjoy the rest time in America.

Today is the third day that l have been to US.It is a really wonderful experience and l enjoy myself very well.At the first day l was very nervous that I hardly express myself very well.But they were very kindness and do anything can help me know the word.
  And there are many different from there and China.In China people don't always drink cold water during a meal and the parent tells our not  "eat something hot as soon as eat something cold"that bad for you health.
